Before forming Bum Kon, Mark Thorpe and Larry Denning were members of the short-lived Denver punk band Reagan Youth, formed in the summer of 1981 with vocalist David Skari. The band quickly developed a tight sound, recorded five songs in a single one-hour studio session in early 1982 with Matt Bischoff on bass and James Clower on lead guitar (White Trash/Frantix/Fluid fame), and planned to release a record. However, Skari's unexpected job transfer out of Denver put those plans on hold. By the time he returned a year later with the money to press the record, Thorpe and Denning had moved on to form Bum Kon with Bob McDonald and Erik Oberhausen. As a result, Reagan Youth's only recordings remained unreleased for decades, preserving a rare snapshot of several key figures from Denver's early punk scene.
